What’s New
in TerraExplorer® Pro v5.1.1
|
The new release of the TerraExplorer marks major
improvements in the capabilities for manipulating terrain, bringing in models
and feature data and creating special effects within TerraExplorer Pro.

New Features in Release 5.1:
The underground navigation mode allows you to explore the
subsurface of the terrain. You can navigate under the terrain’s surface and
through buildings. A subsurface grid navigation aid appears when you navigate
below the terrain, allowing you to navigate the same way as above ground.

Navigating in Underground
Mode
You can set the opacity of the terrain in the 3D View. The
opacity is defined as a percentage, where 100% is opaque and 0% is transparent.
When the opacity is other than 100% (opaque) objects that are submerged in the
terrain become visible through it.

Terrain Objects with
Controlled Terrain Opacity
The Modify Terrain tool changes the elevation values of the
terrain based on a polygon. The surface of the terrain is raised or lowered
according to the elevation values of the polygon's points. Different elevation
behaviors allow replacing, croping above or cropping below the original values
of the terrain. The interior of the polygon can be flat or irregular in shape.

Hole in
Terrain
Hole on Terrain cuts holes in the terrain based on a polygon
that exposes the other side of the terrain through the opening.

§
Increased support
for advanced KML capabilities
§
New support for KMZ
files.
§
Load 3D models in
Collada (Sketchup) format.
The Shadow Analysis tool sets
the sun position creating shadows on buildings. The sun’s position is based on
the given time, date and time zone.

§
Lite objects: The Use Lite Object requires less system resources
for displaying a layer. It is ideal when displaying big layers. Lite objects
cannot be selected or edited and do not have messages or tool tips.
§
Dynamic
annotation placement: Dynamic
Placement enables annotations to be dynamically moved along the polyline object
to which they are assigned, to a visible area in the 3D window.
§
Minimize text
duplications: Minimize
Duplications option reduces instances of repeating labels, with the same text
or image removed from the view.
§
Support for polygons
with holes (multi patch).
§
Loads, streams and
manipulates feature data from a variety of file and database sources via the
DSN channel
§
Supports sources such
as ASCII and Text files, Excel (xsl, xslx), Access (mdb, accdb), SQL Server and
all supported ODBC sources.
§
Loads and streams
layers from a TerraGate Streaming Feature Server (SFS).
§
The TerraGate SFS manages
and streams layers of features, including vectors, polygons and points stored
in different formats. The Feature Server can serve out data from one machine (or
more) to a large number of users while generating optimized cache files.
§
Uses data from local
MPT or remote TerraGate servers as imagery layers
§
Read imagery data
from ArcSDE servers
§
Support secured (HTTPS)
servers
§
Displays the Sextant
viewing and editing window inside of a TerraExplorer container
§
Displays Sextant
models in the 3D World

§
Links multiple
documents to a single object
§
A Links message
displays links to multiple documents or files. You can organize the hyperlinks
into categories like pictures, videos and text
§
You can activate a
hyperlink to launch the appropriate file viewer based on file association. For
example, a *.doc hyperlink launches the Microsoft Word application (if
installed) and displays the document’s content. For security reasons, the file
is opened in an HTML browser. If the browser supports this file type (i.e., BMP
file), it appears in the selected container. If the browser does not support
this file type or there are security restrictions, the browser displays the
appropriate error or warning message.

Hyper-Link Multiple
Files to a Single Object
§
TerraExplorer can
draw an arrow from an object in the 3D world to a pop-up window when the user
assigns a message window to an object.
The Atmospheric Effects sets
the appearance of the atmosphere in the 3D Window. You can control the horizon
distance, fog color, as well as, the sun and moon display.
The sun, moon and sun flare
objects can be displayed and positioned based on a given date, time and time
zone.
You can also display
atmospheric effects such as fog and visibility distance.

Atmospheric Effects
Allow non-administrative and restricted users to install and
use TerraExplorer and TerraExplorer Pro applications on Windows XP and Vista operating systems.
§
Improved Predator
tool (C2MP extension only)
Terra Explorer Pro allows you
to create simple and/or customized objects including markers, free hand lines,
Mil-Std-2525b symbols, and urban designs.
The set of tools in the Standard
tab is designed for presentations and white board applications. The new set of
tools in the Urban Design tab is designed to build roads, junctions and
traffic lights in an urban setting. The tools allow you to draw freestyle lines
by tracking the mouse pointer movements, to create splined and thick lines, to
simply and quickly add notes, and to point to locations on the terrain using
the virtual cursor.

Draw Tool
- Smoothing effect (Spline) for lines and polygons.
- Control the double-side/single-side rendering setting for
3D models.

§
SGAPI: Web developers can now utilize the power of the
SGAPI JavaScript wrapper when developing TerraExplorer tools and enhancements.
§
Creates event
messages for the navigation control (Sidemap)
§
New API control over
several Project Settings and Options parameters.
